Review: Fantasy Football

if you can read a title, this week I'll be discussing fantasy football.

first for a little bit of backstory. this was (for the time being, still is) my first year of doing fantasy football seriously. in previous years, I was both irresponsible in checking it and clueless about the sport as a whole. however, this is the first year it's been for real. a buddy of mine set up a league through yahoo. I joined. simple as that.

yahoo is a great place to do it, since they have plenty of advice lying around. and even if you're not interested the sport, fantasy football makes you interested in it. of course, if you have a losing team, it might not work out that way.

just a quick warning: don't get addicted to it. I've seen it before, and it's not pretty.

VERDICT

fun...ness: A-
-it's pretty awesome, especially if you're doing a league with a bunch of friends. it's not something you can check and be entertained by every day, but every Sunday I feel like whatever game is on television is a screen in a war room.

longevity: B-
-it only lasts until the end of the regular season, but you can't really complain, since it's not like you can do it during the offseason. unless you constantly monitor all the players' offseason workouts. but you really shouldn't do that.

usability-C+
-it has limited usability in conversational situations. you can pretty much only discuss your league with everyone else in it, unless you can find some friend to become your co-manager. co-managers seem cool at first, but you'll just end up getting annoyed at them. you can discuss it with people in other leagues as well, but it's not as good as talking about it with people in your own. besides, you run the risk of someone making fun of you for being in a league.

INTERMISSION

I will now take this moment to briefly brag about my team. disregarding the fact that ladanian tomlinson has been a massive disappointment, steve slaton and michael turner have made up for it in a huge way. drews brees is a fantasy football deity; he's about as consistently incredible as it gets.

FINAL GRADE: A
my suggestion? DO IT.

  1. co-managers are annoying, huh? I get it. After all, i am helping you. Most notably the time where i told you to pick up atlanta defense and you won by one point because of that. Lest you forget, i did help you construct your team. jeez. no respect?
